As of September 2018, the city of Chandler had a population of 258,224 and it’s projected to continue to grow.
In 2016, the city employed 133,540 people, with top occupations including administrative (14.3%), sales (12.6%), management (11.9%), and business and financial operations (7%). The top industries for employment include manufacturing (13.3%), retail trade, (12.3%), healthcare and social assistance (10.9%), and educational services (9%). These numbers are based on residents of Chandler and do not include people who may commute or live in the city and work elsewhere.
At the top of Chandler’s Leading Employers List for 2018 is Intel, which provides 11,000 jobs. The City of Chandler Economic Development Division says that there are plans to invest $7 billion in their facility, which will make it “the world’s most advanced semiconductor factory” and add another 3,000 jobs at the company.
According to Glassdoor, it’s estimated that the average salary for a manufacturing technician is $56,550 a year, while a senior software engineer makes about $111,374 a year.
Other top companies in the high-tech manufacturing industry include NXP Semiconductors, which has about 1,700 employees, and Microchip Technology which is headquartered in Chandler.
Joining Intel at the top of the Leading Employers List are companies in the business and financial services industry. These include Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and PayPal. Wells Fargo employs about 4,500 people and recently expanded their Chandler campus to create room for more growth.
If you’re interested in a career at Wells Fargo, they have many listed on their website for people with various backgrounds. These include customer service representative, project manager, data scientist, teller, and digital manager.
Healthcare is another industry that has seen growth in recent years. Dignity Health’s Chandler Regional Medical Center employs about 2,100 people and is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the East Valley. The hospital’s job openings include registered nurses, and Glassdoor estimates that the average salary for this position is about $31 per hour.
