Goodyear City History:
Established in 1917 when Goodyear Tire and Rubber company purchased 16,000 acres of land, the site was originally used to cultivate cotton for vehicle tire cords. Goodyear became even more important during World War II when Luke Field Auxiliary #6 (Goodyear Field) was constructed by the United States Army Air Forces in 1943. Serving as a satellite airfield for Luke AAF, this airfield boasted more facilities than any other airfield.
