Lucid Motors, a luxury electric car maker, has just started construction on their manufacturing plant in Casa Grande. This plant is scheduled for completion in 2020, and represents an investment of over $300 million. This plant is expected to bring over 5,000 jobs to the area, and Lucid has already started hiring the first of its Arizona operations.
In addition to jobs, Lucid officials expect to make more than $700 million in capital investments in the project by 2029. They expect a $32 billion revenue impact for the city and county over a 20-year period.
Governor Doug Ducey attended the groundbreaking ceremony and noted the high-tech automotive plant as a testament to the geographic location, business environment, and talent that our state has to offer.
The first production vehicles will roll out of the plant as soon as December, 2020. Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s chief executive officer and chief technology officer, said he expects to produce about 15,000 vehicles in the first full calendar year of 2021.
