When people think of Arizona, they typically think of a desert landscape with a few tumbleweeds rolling around – perhaps the most popular form of transportation is by mule. Unfortunately the rumors of getting around solely by mule are false; although you can take a mule down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Phoenix, Arizona has a variety of transportation options! Freeways designed carefully inspired by a grid, buses, Metro Rail and plane. You will be sure to get to from point A to point B, one way or another.
The freeway systems in Arizona are designed with a grid in mind. This makes driving in Phoenix, Arizona easy! If you get lost or turned around you can easily take one exit off the freeway and turn yourself around to get to the destination you have in mind! There are a couple exceptions to this, as some older parts of the city are not as thought out as the newer parts of town. If you don’t have a car, or do not want to drive your car across town, no need to worry! You can travel by bus or by the Metro Rail.
Valley Metro Bus is your hometown bus. You can park your car at the Park-And-Ride station and hop on the bus and travel to your destination. This is great if you want to help keep the environment clean and save money on gas! It’s a win/win for you and it makes your carbon footprint lighter.
The newest transportation that has joined the family in Phoenix is the Valley Metro Rail. The locals refer to Valley Metro Rail as the Light Rail. The Light Rail is slowly making its way across the valley; however, if you live in north Phoenix and need to get downtown or to the east valley you can stop at the closest light rail station, park your car at the Park-And-Ride, hop on the lightrail and relax. This is a popular mode of transportation for those going to the Phoenix Suns, Arizona Diamondbacks and Arizona State University games. The Phoenix Suns even offer free light rail passes if you have a ticket for the basketball game. Talk about a slamdunk of a deal!
